Radio Legend Paul Harvey - Dead At Age 90

Radio pioneer Paul Harvey passed away today at the age of 90, surrounded by family members in a Phoenix hospital. The cause of death has not been announced. Harvey's was one of the most beloved voices heard across the nation's radio stations who would begin his weekday broadcast with his signature, Hello Americans, This Is Paul Harvey. Long before Rush Limbaugh took to the airwaves, Paul Harvey graced listeners with his own style of home-spun, down-to-earth commentary on the news of the day. The broadcaster's listeners spanned the range of those going about their day in the heartland, to those navigating through cross-town traffic in the steel and concrete canyons of the nation's cities. Paul Harvey's bylines took on a folksy tone with listeners, as though he were sharing stories over a backyard fence with a long-time friend and neighbor about events far and near.
Whether reporting on big stories and those little stories not often carried by the big three networks, Mr. Harvey would explain the news with an easy, relaxed manner, that gave you the assurance that things were still alright in America, and that we would awake the next morning to promise of a brighter day.

While still a student at Central High School, Paul Harvey began his broadcast career in 1933 with radio station KVOO in his hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mr. Harvey was born Paul Harvey Aurandt, the son of a Tulsa Police Officer killed in the line of duty while Paul was a toddler. A speech teacher at Harvey's High School took note of his distinctive voice inflection and stacatto-like delivery and pointed him toward a career in radio. TulsaTV Memories has a tribute to distinguished alumni of Central High School and Miss Isabelle Ronan, who launched the career of an American radio icon.

Mr. Harvey's death comes less than one year after the death of his beloved wife and producer Lynn in May of 2008. Paul Harvey credited the success of his career to his wife whom he always addressed as Angel. The couple met while working at St. Louis radio station KXOK where Harvey proposed to his future wife of sixty-eight years on their first date. The couple married in 1940 and have a son, Paul Junior. The couple later moved to Chicago, Illinois and the ABC News network where Paul Senior began broadcast of Paul Harvey's, The Rest of the Story in 1951.

Mr. Harvey is depicted above as he was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom award from President George W. Bush in 2005. Only fourteen other celebrated individuals have been given this award. Paul Harvey was also inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame and received the Paul White award, the most coveted honor bestowed by the Radio-Television News Directors Association.

Paul Harvey, rest in peace, you will be missed.

Nationwide Rallies Protest Obama Stimulus Bill

Protestors held Boston-style "Tea Parties" across the nation on Friday to protest the SwindleUS Generational Theft Act of 2009, passed by Democrat Members of Congress with the help of RepublicanInNameOnly Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania. Demonstrators in many locations braved cold and windy weather to voice their opposition against the so-called Stimulus Package, the largest, most outrageous pork and spending bill in U.S. history.

Gateway Pundit has pictures like this one from the Tea Party held in St. Louis.

This Ain't Hell has pictures and video from the D.C. rally with a stop-over by Joe the Plumber.

Obama's Failing Economic Policies Reflected In Falling Stock Market Values On Wall Street

Hope that brings real change is what candidate Barack Obama promised America while on the stump last year. Now that the former Illinois Senator is the 44th President of the United States the market has continued its precipitous dive since the time he overtook John McCain in the race to the White House. Laryn's Link has dubbed him as "The Depression President".
Now CitiGroup's shares are down 35% as of 9:16AM EST despite the Obama administration's plans to buy up 40% of the banking giant's shares. This is a whole lot more change than the American public bargained when they elected the man from Hyde Park.

Boston Tea Parties Scheduled Around The Nation On Friday

On the evening of December 16th 1773, a group of fifty to sixty men disguised as Mohawk Indians boarded the British cargo ship Dartmouth moored in Boston harbor. Carefully unloading the ship's cargo of 342 chests of Tea from the East India Tea Company the men split open the chests and tossed the contents into Boston harbor to the delight of throngs of supporters gathered on the docks. By morning, 45 tons of tea had been dumped into the harbor with a loss of nearly $2 Million in modern-day value to the British Crown's official joint-stock company. Trouble between the colonists and King George III had been brewing over the the English parliment and the monarchy's efforts to force Americans to buy tea from the government sanctioned trading company, even though cheaper sources of tea were available to the public from Dutch merchants who did not tax their tea. Americans under the leadership of Samuel Adams finally delivered their own forceful response to the crown's attempt to dictate the sensibilities of tea consumption to the colonists.

Tomorrow on Friday February 27th 2009, Americans likewise sickened and disgusted by the frivilous and wasteful Tax and Spend policies of this administration, will hold Boston style Tea Parties from sea to shining sea.

Wealthy American Clients Sue UBS To Maintain Secrecy

The NY Times reports that rich American clients sued UBS in a Swiss Federal Court yesterday in order to maintain their anonimity.

The suit, filed by a lawyer in Zurich, Andreas Rued, on behalf of nearly a dozen American clients, underscores the growing clash between Swiss banking secrecy laws and those of the United States. Tax evasion is not considered a crime in Switzerland. Disclosing client names under Swiss law is a criminal offense and can expose bank executives and officers to fines, prison terms and other penalties.

UBS is the world’s largest private bank and Switzerland is the world’s largest offshore tax haven, with trillions of dollars in assets.

How much do you want to bet that some of the clients suiing to maintain their secrecy are the same Democrat politicians you saw clapping and high-fiving one another during the President's speech before Congress, after he promissed to raise taxes on 5% of the nation's top income earners? High taxes for the suckers and the "Joe the Plumbers" out there but not on the players inside the DC Beltway right Democrats?

President Obama's Galling Distortions

A pattern that has become apparent in the five week-old presidency of Barack Obama, is that he says one thing before the cameras and does the exact opposite when the cameras have been packed up. I'm amazed by this President's unique ability to stretch the truth in the cause of advancing his own highly partisan agenda. After listening to the sound of the President's high-sounding oratory, the listener is left to ponder the deafening toll left by the hollow ringing of empty words resounding in the backbround. How can someone who seems so sincere before cameras be so sincerely wrong on topics of substance?

This assessment of the President's misteps with truth and candidness are shared by columnists Calvin Woodward and Jim Kuhnhenn who delve into a little fact checking of Obama's words.
Here is but a sampling of their article:
OBAMA: "We have launched a housing plan that will help responsible families facing the threat of foreclosure lower their monthly payments and refinance their mortgages. It's a plan that won't help speculators or that neighbor down the street who bought a house he could never hope to afford, but it will help millions of Americans who are struggling with declining home values."

THE FACTS: If the administration has come up with a way to ensure money only goes to those who got in honest trouble, it hasn't said so. ....... the head of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. suggested this month it's not likely aid will be denied to all homeowners who overstated their income or assets to get a mortgage they couldn't afford. "I think it's just simply impractical to try to do a forensic analysis of each and every one of these delinquent loans," Sheila Bair told National Public Radio.
OBAMA: "We have known for decades that our survival depends on finding new sources of energy. Yet we import more oil today than ever before."
THE FACTS: Oil imports peaked in 2005 at just over 5 billion barrels, and have been declining slightly since. The figure in 2007 was 4.9 billion barrels, or about 58 percent of total consumption. The nation is on pace this year to import 4.7 billion barrels, and government projections are for imports to hold steady or decrease a bit over the next two decades.
OBAMA: "Regulations were gutted for the sake of a quick profit at the expense of a healthy market. People bought homes they knew they couldn't afford from banks and lenders who pushed those bad loans anyway. And all the while, critical debates and difficult decisions were put off for some other time on some other day."

THE FACTS: This may be so, but it isn't only Republicans who pushed for deregulation of the financial industries. The Clinton administration championed an easing of banking regulations, including legislation that ended the barrier between regular banks and Wall Street banks. That led to a deregulation that kept regular banks under tight federal regulation but extended lax regulation of Wall Street banks. Clinton Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, later an economic adviser to candidate Obama, was in the forefront in pushing for this deregulation.
Not done with taking swipes at former President George W. Bush whenever it suits his interests, President Obama more than once referred to the budget deficit "that we inherited", during his address before last night's joint session of Congress. What Mr. Obama conveniently failed to mention while delivering his Bush-bashing riffs before the media and his fellow partisans on the Hill, was that he and his administration in two short weeks have managed to TRIPLE the size of the Federal Government's budget deficit over that of his predecessor.
On one side of his mouth, Mr. Obama says that he is for fiscal responsibility and from the other side of his mouth, pushes Congressional Democrats and three Republican Senators to saddle generations of Americans with the most outrageous pork-laden spending bill in U.S. history. After marketing this larded spending binge stuffed with over 9,000 earmarks as an "economic stimulus package" Mr. Obama proclaims before the nation that it is free of pork! This President either believes that by merely giving utterance, he can purge a porcine spending measure of special-interest laden earmarks, or takes the American public for complete fools!
Red State comments that nearly one-fourth of the national debt left by the previous administration was created by Democrats in the two years since they siezed control of the Congress. (H.T. Red State for Graphic)

Bobby Jindal Delivers The Republican Response To President Obama

Bobby Jindal hits a home run as he declares that the greatness in America is not found in Government by in its people.

As a show of how their crazy leftist politics have rendered them as crass as they are deluded, an MSNBC host or producer is heard uttering "Oh God", before the governor of Louisiana delivers the Republican response to their messiah's speech. Hey MSNBC kool aid drinkers, do us all a favor and deliver your resignations to the network execs tomorrow morning so they can hire grown ups to produce and host your current slate of propaganda outlets. Who knows, maybe you can gain market share on the Fox News Network once you have real journalists fill your vacant seats.

President Obama Addresses Joint Session Of Congress

President Obama takes swipes at President Bush and "predatory lenders" as he sounds a more positive tone on the economy than he has in recent weeks in this video of his speech before a joint session of Congress.

Arlen Specter Greeted By Protestors In Cranberry Township, PA

Seventy-nine year old Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Spector was greeted by protestors angry at the RINO (Republican In Name Only) GOPer for his crucial vote in favor of President Barack Obama's Trillion Dollar Boondoggle marketed by the new president and his media lackeys as the stimulus package of 2009. Spector's unhappy constituents displayed signs that read, Benedict Arlen wait for 2010, the year that the soon-to-be octagenarian will be up for re-election.

Pittsburgh TV station KDKA highlights the reception given to Spector when he visited the western Pennsylvania burough. Meanwhile, keystone state entrepeneur Tim Burns throws down the gauntlet and calls out limosine liberal Spector who as a reward for the betrayal of his constituents, was rewarded with an invitation to join Obama for a wine and dine session at a Super Bowl party with other DC wonks.

Pelosi Rebuked By The Pope

Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi found herself on the business end of a Papal rebuke this week during a 15 minute audience with His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI. In a statement issued by the Vatican concerning the meeting between the Holy See and the consumate clothes horse and doyenne of leftist politics, the Pope reasserted the moral obligation of Catholic politicians to protect human life from conception until natural death. In stark contrast to the reception given other visiting public figures and as a ancilary slap to the head, the Vatican did not release a photograph of Pelosi with the Pope despite the San Francisco politician's ham-handed attempt to recruit His Holiness to team Nancy and Company. Pelosi, who fancies herself to be an "ardent Catholic" was reduced to issuing a lame press release stating how thrilled she was that, I had the opportunity to praise the Church’s leadership in fighting poverty, hunger, and global warming, blah, blah, blah,.....(insert politically correct talking points here and there).

In contrast to Pelosi's shop-worn, spin cycled press release regarding the meeting, the Vatican issued the following statement; His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church’s consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death which enjoin all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in cooperation with all men and women of good will in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development.

Nancy, would you like a little unsolicited advice from the RedStateRocketeer? Things don't go as planned, and you get a lot more than you bargained for when you attempt to use your meeting with the Vicar of Christ as a convenient backdrop for your amatuerish, hackneyed, paint-by-the-numbers political ambitions. You end up looking,.....well,......foolish.

Take a cue from the founder of our faith, Jesus Christ. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? (Matthew 16:26)

And Saint James (one of the twelve disciples) writes regarding those who want to be popular and march lock-step with the world's shifting values, Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. (James 4:4)

Politicos, is friendship with the world system and garnering its fleeting approval worth the price of your soul? I think not. Why don't you wise up and come to your senses?

Here's Laura Ingram, a genuinely committed Catholic commenting on Nancy's not-so-excellent adventure with His Excellency the Pope.

It Figures; $20 Barack Obama Coins Are Stickers On 50 Cent Pieces

More Hope that leaves you holding some spare Change. Barack Obama "Commemorative Coins" sold on late night TV are nothing more than 50 cent pieces with cheap stickers slapped onto them.

Montel Williams says in the ad, Some people might try to say in some ways that this is not more than 'capitalizing' on an historic event but I think this is really "capturing" an historic event.

I'll say. It's "capitalizing" on people's historic gullibility and mindless Obama worship while "capturing" some quickly gotten coin.

KATU-TV in Portland, Oregon captures some of the outrage of customers who were duped into buying some of the phony scratch.
